Richard D. Bournival

Richard D. "Dick" Bournival, 79, of Nashua, NH, died May 28, 2008 at Lowell General Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born April 30, 1929 and was the oldest of 10 children of Ferdinand and Marie A. (Leveille) Bournival. He grew up in Manchester, NH and had lived in the Lowell, MA area for many years. He had been a resident of Nashua, NH the past 20 years. He and his wife had wintered in Palm Beach Gardens, FL for many years.

At the age of 17 he became the youngest licensed insurance agent for the Combined Insurance Company of America. At 21, he married and moved to Lowell, MA where he started working in the back shop of a local Chrysler-Plymouth dealership. In 1962, Chrysler offered him the dealership and he later established others in Portsmouth, NH and Augusta, ME. He retired in 1996.

He was a former president of the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce, served as Co-Chairman of the New England Chrysler Plymouth Dealers Jimmy Fund, was Divisional Chairman of the Merrimack Valley United Way, and was Chairman of the National Chrysler Dealers Council. He served on the Board of Directors of Union National Bank, Pelham Bank and Trust, and Baybank Middlesex.

Mr. Bournival had served as President of the Merrimack Regional Theatre. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Lowell Plan, which was instrumental in the City of Lowell become a National Historic Park, and the Board of Directors of St. John's Hospital in Lowell, MA

Time Magazine honored him for his outstanding performance as an auto dealer and valued citizen of his community.

An avid golfer he was a 40-year member of Vespar Country Club in Tyngsboro, MA. He also was a member of Ballen Isles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens. He participated in numerous golf tournaments including the Bob Hope Desert Classic.

He leaves his wife of 58 years, Florence M. (Buckley) Bournival of Nashua, NH; four children, Richard D. Bournival and his wife, Alissa, of Rye, NH, Susan M. Bournival and her husband, Lawrence Buote, of No. Andover, MA, Andrea B. Namay and her husband, Dr. Richard, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and David P. Bournival and his wife, Eileen, of Hampstead, NH; 5 grandchildren; a brother, Robert Bournival of Rochester, NH; six sisters, Pauline Atkinson of Northport, L.I., NY, Jacqueline McClellan of Hooksett, NH, Jeannette Magarian of Manchester, NH, Marguerite White of Birmingham, Alabama, Suzanne Matson of Concord, NH, and Charlotte Pasquale of Springfield, MA; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by 3 grandchildren

Private services were held last week with encryptment in Mt. Calvary Mausoleum, Manchester, NH
