Richard W. Bruner

Richard W. Bruner, 85, of Bedford died December 15, 2009 at the Ridgewood Center after a period of declining health.

He was born in Covington, OK on August 11, 1924 the son of Sidney L. and Lola M. (Fortney) Bruner. He attended the University of Oklahoma before earning his bachelors degree from Wichita State University in Kansas in 1945. He was certified from the Bank Administration School at the University of Wisconsin and from the American Bankers Assoc. at Rutgers University. He also attended summer banking seminars at the Institute for Financial Management at Harvard University.

During WWII, he served in the US Navy aboard the USS Wasatch. He fought in the Pacific Theater and was stationed in Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines.

He had lived in Wichita, KS for many years prior to moving to NH. In Wichita, he worked at the Union National Bank for twenty years and was president of Twin Lakes State Bank for seventeen years. He was a pioneer in the banking field and was the first banker in Kansas to institute the use of computers.

Family members include his wife, Irene (Belaski) Bruner of Bedford; two brothers, Donald W. Bruner of Topeka, KS and Raymond D. Bruner of Butler, OK; two sisters, Iris Frey of Lynville, TN, and Betty Snider of Waukomis, OK; many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Friday, December 18, 2009 in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Meetinghouse Road, Bedford. Burial followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
