Born in Manchester on April 18, 1929, he was the son of Theodore J. and Charlotte (Fonteyn) Bunnens. He was educated in the local school system.
Stationed at Ft. Bragg, he served honorably in both the US Army and the New Hampshire Army National Guard.
While a young man, he was employed by Seal Tanning in the mill yard. He then had worked in customer service at several local electrical supply companies. Prior to retirement, he had worked as a security guard at the Catholic Medical Center for many years.
A man of many talents, Richard enjoyed fishing, golfing at Intervale Country Club, woodworking, playing cards on Friday nights with his dear friends, and excelled at billiards. He was a life member of the East Side Club and had held the position of president of the former Belgium Club. Above all else, Dick will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. His daughter frequently referred to him as the oldest, most stubborn, Belgium goat.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years, L. Pearl (Fleurent) Bunnens in 2011.
Family members include his daughter, Sandra (Bunnens) LaVergne and her husband William of Manchester; two grandchildren, Aaron R. LaVergne and his wife Rachel of Hooksett, Andrea M. LaVergne of Manchester; great-grandchildren, Jabari, Ahmad, Cadence, and Tyler; many cousins.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday, December 8, 2014 in St. Raphael Church, Walker St, Manchester. Burial with military honors followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 474 Goffstown Road, Manchester.
