Richard (Rick) Cohen, age 85, of Bedford, New Hampshire, passed away on June 11 after a slow decline into dementia.

Born in Brockton, Massachusetts, Richard was the child of Simon and Celia (Nagel) Cohen. He graduated from Nichols college in 1962. Rick grew up in Brockton, Massachusetts, with his parents and younger brother James in a robust Jewish community.

He took over his father’s business Sam Cohen Co. and ran it successfully until he retired in his early 70’s. Ahead of his time, Rick owned a company specializing in taking reused and recycled garments and repurposing them. Some were re-sold in the store at the front of the factory and some were processed as rags for machinery and shipped all over the country.

He raised his family first in Brockton and then in Brookline, Massachusetts, with his late wife Susan Cohen.

Rick was passionate about mystery novels, the democratic committee in his local town, country music, and buying gadgets. He was known for his friendliness, openness, generosity, and sense of humor.

He is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer Cohen (John Rice) and Lisa Cohen (Ron Fernandez), his three granddaughters, Emma Sharff (Tom Mulligan), Eliza Sharff, and Sophia Rice as well as by his beloved partner, Linda Abels, her daughters, Rebecca Schor and Rachel Schor (Andy Goldish) and grandson, Finn Schor.
