Richard Gary Courville, 77, of North Hampton, New Hampshire, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024, alongside his beloved wife of 8 years, Denise Bulmer Courville. Known for his generosity, warmth, and dedication, Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Born on December 11, 1946, in Marlborough, Massachusetts, Richard was raised with a strong sense of duty and responsibility. After earning his degree in economics from the University of New England (St. Francis College) in 1968, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970 with the 199th Infantry Brigade.
Returning home, Richard founded The Courvilles in Nashua, New Hampshire, with a vision to provide compassionate care for seniors. At age 25, Richard became the youngest nursing home administrator in New Hampshire. Through hard work and a genuine desire to serve others, he grew the business into a respected senior living and rehabilitation community with locations in Nashua, Manchester, and Bedford. Those who worked with Richard admired him not only for his business acumen but also for his fairness, kindness, and unwavering commitment to residents and staff alike.
Richard’s passions extended beyond his work. He loved traveling, cherished Boston sports, and could often be found enjoying the smooth swooning and crooning of Frank Sinatra. Whether cheering on the Red Sox or sharing stories over a good meal, Richard’s joy for life was infectious and always brought people together.
He is survived by his sons Ryan, Michael, and Adam and their wives; his step-sons Stevie and Cameron and their wives; and 11 grandchildren who adored their "Pappy." Richard is also lovingly remembered by his first wife of 31 years, Gail Barlow Courville. His family was the center of his world, and his legacy of love and devotion will live on through them.
Visitation hours will take place from 11:00AM to 5:00PM on Friday, August 23rd at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St. Please enter through the North St. entrance. A private service will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in honor of Richard to help support the launch of his next vision and legacy: The Richard G. Courville Foundation to provide Nursing Scholarships and support educational opportunities for careers in healthcare. The Nursing Forward initiative reflects Richard’s long standing commitment to fostering continued education and his belief in workforce development and the career opportunities available in healthcare. Contributions can currently be accepted by Venmo to @RGC-FDN or check made out to “R.G. Courville” and mailed to 175 River Rd., Manchester, NH, 03104.
Richard’s life was marked by love, loyalty, and service—to his family, his community, and his country. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory and the kindness he showed others will continue to inspire everyone who knew him.
