Richard D. Grady

Richard D. Grady Sr., 75, of Manchester, died Saturday, Dec 15, 2007 after a period of declining health.

Born in Manchester on December 1, 1932, he was the son of John and Alexina (Hamel) Grady. He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Grammar School and graduated from Bishop Bradley High School. He served in the US Air Force and was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He later served in the NH National Guard for many years.

Prior to retirement, he had been employed at Green Thumb as a job developer. Previous to that, he had been employed by the New Hampshire Union Leader as a photographer and had owned and operated the Queen City Auto School.

He found great joy in helping others and was an avid life long volunteer. He had given over 4,000 hours of his time helping other veterans at the VA Medical Center in Manchester and also donated time and his photography expertise for New Horizons for New Hampshire.

Dick left many loyal and life long friends who will miss him dearly. He will especially be missed by his Friday Photographers Lunch Bunch, Bob, Sam, Dick, Dick, Pat, and Aurel. The family would like to thank all of his caretakers who assisted him during his time of declining health.

Members of his family include three daughters, Beth Ann Grady, Ret. Air Force Major, of Augusta, ME, Mary Frances Helides of Raymond, and Amy F. Balban of Manchester; one son, Richard D. "T" Grady Jr. of Manchester; two grandchildren, Richard D. Grady III of New Boston and Molly M. Helides of Raymond; two step-grandchildren, Shaynon Baker and Tanya Baker Colon, both of Manchester; his twin brother, Robert P. Grady of Deerfield Beach, FL; a sister, Margaret A. Adams and her husband Bruce A. Adams of Bow; many nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, one son, Christopher E. Grady, and one brother, John C. Grady.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Thursday December 20, 2007 in St. Catherine Church, corner of Webster St. and Hemlock St., Manchester. Burial with full military honors followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.
