Richard L. Mappes

Born in Cincinnati, OH on September 27, 1928, he was the son of William and Flora (Wasserman) Mappes. He lived in Charlotte, NC 13 years before moving to Litchfield in 2007.

During the Korean War he served in the US Army.

Mr. Mappes worked as an accountant for many years. He later became chief financial officer for Benthos in West Falmouth, MA for nine years.

In Charlotte, he had volunteered for the American Red Cross and for the Charlotte Police Department.

The family includes his wife of 57 years, Grace A. (Poundstone) Mappes of Litchfield; two children, Joyce M. Lezberg of Westford, MA and Michael R. Mappes of Londonderry; a brother, Robert W. Mappes of Castro Valley, CA and nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday July 2, 2008 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 9 St. Francis Way, Litchfield. Encryptment of cremated remains was at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen.
