Richard G. Westwater, 95, of Manchester, died October 6, 2022 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Dorchester, MA on September 11, 1927, he was the son of the late George and Genevieve (Lennon) Westwater.  He was the last survivor of eight children.  Richard was a graduate of Boston Trade High School, earned his bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis and attended MIT.  He served in the US Navy during WWII as an underwater demolitionist and was honorably discharged at the rank of Gunners Mate 3rd class in 1948.  He was a technical representative for the European Government for many years and worked as an electrical engineer for Sanders until his retirement in 1989.

Richard was very generous.  He was a giver of his time and energy to all he encountered and would help anyone at the drop of a hat, asking for nothing in return.  He was highly intelligent and extremely compassionate.  Richard was always at the ready.  He could build anything, even his own airplanes. Richard loved his family deeply and spending time together was what he enjoyed the most.  His beloved wife, Mary, and he traveled the world and enjoyed a quiet and satisfying life in later years. Above all else, Richard will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend. Most of whom were at his bedside when he passed in his home.

Surviving family includes his wife of 36 years, Mary M. (Lahart) Westwater of New York and Manchester; three daughters, Janice Westwater Heyman and husband Steven of Grasonville, MD, Diane Westwater of Santa Fe, NM, and Bonnie Westwater of Flagstaff, AZ; four grandchildren, Henry Stephan and his wife Kathi of Dover, DE, Jessica Jordan and her husband Ted of Nashua, Dillon Edlund and his wife Caroline of Northfield, VT, and Takoda Edlund of Kodiak, AK; eight great grandchildren, Charlie Stephan, Sophia Jordan, Shae Stephan, Abbie Jordan, Aidan Stephan, Ava Jordan, Chrissy Edlund, and Ella Mae Edlund.  He was the beloved brother of Larry and Charles Westwater, and of Eileen Jenkins; brother-in law of Andrew and Nancy Gibson and John and Claudia Lahart; and proud uncle to Danny Gibson and wife Lauren, Craig Gibson and wife Anne Marie, and Kelly Brooks and husband Layton.  Richard was predeceased by his first wife Jacqueline Leonard Westwater in 1986; one son, Robert Westwater in 1963; seven siblings; and one brother-in-law, Thomas Lahart. The family would like to take the opportunity to thank the angels of VNA Home Healthcare & Hospice for the kindness and compassion that was given to Richard.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s memory to: VNA Home Health & Hospice, 1070 Holt Ave., Ste. 1400, Manchester, NH 03109.
