Sister Rita Duguay, CSC (Sister Mary Gerard of Hungary) of the Sisters of Holy Cross, 357 Island Pond Road, Manchester, died October 8, 2006.
She was born in Adams, MA, on June 25, 1917, the daughter of Joseph and Marie-Anne (Deblois) Duguay.
Sister Rita entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Holy Cross in 1936 and made her final profession in 1943. She served the Congregation for 70 years.
Sister Rita received a BA in Business Education from Rivier College, Nashua, NH, an MED from Boston University, Boston, MA. She also matriculated at St. John University in Collegeville, Minnesota.
Sister Rita taught in elementary parochial schools and high schools under the direction of the Sisters of Holy Cross in New Bedford and Attleboro, MA, also in Nashua, Manchester, and Rochester, NH. Sister Rita also did secretarial work for the La Salette Fathers in Worcester, MA, Attleboro, MA, and Enfield, NH. Sister was a member of Business Educators Organization.
Sister Rita retired to St. George Manor in 1997. She transferred to Holy Cross Health Center in 2003 where she resided until her death.
She is survived by her nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday October 10, 2006 in the chapel at St. George Manor. Burial followed in St. Augustin Cemetery.
