Robert D. Barton

Robert D. Barton, 87, of Manchester, died October 20, 2010 at Hillsborough County Nursing Home in Goffstown after a period of declining health.

He was born in Keene, NH July 30, 1923 and was the son of Harold and Roberta (Rolfe) Barton. He lived in Claremont for many years before moving to Manchester several years ago.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii as an aviation mechanic.

He then worked as a carpenter for various builders in the Keene area and attended Keene State College where he graduated with a teaching degree. He taught elementary school in Claremont for 35 years.

He was an avid reader and storyteller who enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as restoring antique automobiles. He and his wife enjoyed international travel and in their retirement they were snowbirds living in Punta Gorda Fl.

He leaves his wife of 63 years, Annette (Dumont) Barton of Manchester; a son, Timothy D. Barton of Manchester; two granddaughters, Heather Barton, Katherine Eagen and her husband, Scott Eagen; two great grandsons, Bennett Eagen and Colin Eagen, all of Manchester.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at St. Catherine Church. Burial followed in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
