Robert Christy

Robert Christy, 85, of Nottingham, longtime resident of Manchester, died March 5, 2017 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Manchester on November 22, 1931, he was the son of Colley and Dhoxey (Joseph) Christy. He attended local schools and graduated from Manchester Central High School in 1949, whereupon he was admitted to the University of New Hampshire and graduated in 1953. After graduation, he was commissioned as an artillery officer and entered active duty with the US Army.
He graduated from Boston University Law School and was admitted to the Bar of the State of New Hampshire in 1959.
Attorney Christy was admitted to the practice of law before the US Supreme Court, the US Circuit Court of Appeals, the US District Court for New Hampshire as well as the New Hampshire Supreme Court.
In addition to three years of varsity hockey and three years varsity lacrosse at UNH, Attorney Christy had participated in other sports activities across the State. He was one of the founding fathers of the Granite State Hockey League, former Director for Pop Warner Football, and former coach and director in the Manchester Regional Youth Hockey Program. He was a 26 year member of the City of Manchester's Board of Health, a board he chaired for 21 years. He was also an Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and a Director of the United Way of Manchester. Bob and his wife enjoyed many years of traveling to the islands off the Caribbean and the western United States. He was an avid fly-fisherman, tying his own flies and making his own rods. He and his son Michael traveled to Wyoming where they went by horseback into the back country to camp and fish on the Yellowstone River. Bob also enjoyed fishing the Miramichi River in Canada and the Green River and San Juan River in New Mexico.
Family members include his wife of 33 years, Rae Catherine Christy of Nottingham; his sons, Peter Christy and Kevin Lapato, both of Manchester; his daughter, Kelley Catanzaro and husband John of Manchester; his brother, William and wife Mary Christy of Manchester; grandchildren, Keith Lapato, Jillian George, Ryan Hardy and Rebecca Hardy; great-grandchildren, Hope, Sienna, Logan and Liam; his nephew, John and his wife Dawn Christy and their children Caroline, Andrew and James of Norfolk, VA. He was predeceased by his son, Michael Christy in 2012 and his brother Thomas Christy.
Private interment will take place in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
