ROBERT E. COMER

Robert E. Comer, 70, of Manchester died December 5, 2001 at his residence after a brief illness.

Born in Salem, MA on January 23, 1931, he was the son of Charles E. and Gladys (Willette) Comer. He was a resident of Manchester for many years.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1950 to 1958 attaining the rank of captain. During that time he became a jet pilot and then a training instructor.

He later worked at 3M Company as a sales representative for 37 years.

Mr. Comer was a founder of Boy Scout Troop 113 in Manchester. In 1996, he was awarded one of scouting's highest honors, the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to youth.

He was very involved with Camp Carpenter in Manchester where he had served as treasurer of the Board of Trustees and was vice chairman of the Camp Carpenter Committee. In addition, he was instrumental in fundraising and planning for the construction of the interfaith chapel at Camp Carpenter.

He was an active member of St. Francis Church where he served as chairman of the finance committee and day care committee.

The family includes his wife of 46 years, Jane A. (Sheridan) Comer of Manchester; a daughter, Betty E. Martello of Seattle, WA; four sons, Michael E. Comer and Mark A. Comer both of Bedford, Daniel S. Comer and John P. Comer both of Manchester; six grandchildren; a sister, June Patnaude of Haverhill, MA; a brother, Barry Comer of Manchester; nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were December 9, 2001 in Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., corner of North Street, Manchester. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated December 10, 2001 in St. Francis Church, 9 St. Francis Way, Litchfield. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald St., Bedford.
