Robert Gregg Keary

Robert Gregg Keary, 72, of Bedford, died unexpectedly November 9, 2016, at his residence.


He was born in Abington, PA on December 13, 1943, the son of the late William V. and Irene P. (Malicki) Keary. Gregg graduated from Wayland High School, Wayland, MA in 1961. He attended Boston College for one year before entering the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, graduating in 1966. He then earned his Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island in 1972 and Masters of Science Degree in Economics from Boston University (London, England campus) in 1985.


Gregg served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 20 years and was honorably discharged at the rank of Lieutenant Commander, serving tours of duty in numerous cities along the U.S. east coast, Vietnam, and London, England. His awards include the Coast Guard Achievement Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After retirement from the Coast Guard, Gregg worked as a software engineer for various companies in the New England area. He worked most recently as a contractor in computer support for Ross Trucking of Boscawen, NH for over 6 years.


Gregg was a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Nashua. He had a passion for flying and received his pilot's license this year. Gregg loved skiing with his family, especially at Bretton Woods, and spending time at their second house in Bethlehem. Above all he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.


Family includes his beloved wife of 48 years, Karen M. (Johnson) Keary of Bedford; two sons, Jonathan L. Keary and wife Lianne of Penacook, and Kristian G. Keary and wife Korie Wilkins of Rochester Hills, MI; three grandchildren, Simon P. Keary, and Abigail G. Keary of Penacook, and Benjamin G. Keary of Rochester Hills, MI; one sister, Janee Connor and husband John of Holliston, MA; two brothers, Bruce Keary and wife Mary of Boston, MA, and Christopher Keary and wife Marluce of Grafton, MA; mother-in-law, Jerdis Johnson of Bedford; and many nieces and nephews.


A funeral service was held on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 21 Centre St, Concord. Committal prayers with military honors followed in the chapel at NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Animal Rescue League of NH, 545 Route 101, Bedford, NH 03110.
