Robert J. Harrison, 77, of Manchester died April 2, 2009 at Elliot Hospital after a long illness.
Born in St. Charles, MO on June 21, 1931, he was the son of Daniel and Marie (Riney) Harrison. He grew up in Muskogee, OK and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1957. He lived in Manchester for 52 years.
He served in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1955.
Mr. Harrison worked for Public Service Company of New Hampshire for many years. During his 31 years with PSNH he served as assistant to the president, vice president, treasurer, financial vice president, chief financial officer, chief operating officer and president and chief executive officer. He retired in 1988.
IN HIS LIFE: He was a member of the board of directors for PSNH, Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company, Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Corporation and Yankee Atomic Electric Company, and Numerica Financial Corporation. He was also a member of the executive committee of the New England Power Pool and the Northeast Power Coordinating Council, and served as a director of Edison Electric Institute. He was a former member and president of the board of directors of the Electric Council of New England.
Active in the community, he served as a director of the American Heart Association, Easter Seals Foundation of New Hampshire and Vermont, Federated Arts of Manchester, and the United Way of Greater Manchester.
He served as director of the Business and Industry Association of New Hampshire and the Governor's Management Review.
The family includes his wife of 54 years, Monique (Gilbert) Harrison of Manchester; four children, David Harrison and his wife, Marjorie, of London, England, Gregory Harrison and his wife, Kathleen, of Okemos, MI, Elizabeth Cutliffe and her husband, Laurence, of Bedford, and Thomas Harrison and his wife, Christen, of Andover, MA; six grandchildren, Douglas Harrison, Elizabeth Harrison, William Harrison, Noel Harrison, Jessica Cutliffe and Jennifer Cutliffe; and cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, April 6, 2009 at St. Catherine Church, corner of Webster and Hemlock streets, Manchester. Committal prayers followed at Mt. Calvary Mausoleum, 474 Goffstown Rd., Manchester.
