Robert L. LaPointe Sr., 78, of Manchester died November 29, 2003 at home after a long illness.
Born in Manchester on May 7, 1925, he was the son of Napoleon R. and Ella M. (Caron) LaPointe. He graduated from West High School in 1944 as Class President and was a lifelong resident of Manchester.
Mr. LaPointe retired as Circulation Director of the Union Leader Corporation where he had worked for 35 years. He was also a member of the Union Leader advisory board.
He served on the Executive Board of the Manchester CrimeLine and was a member of the 100 Club, the Optimist Club and High Hopes. In addition, he belonged to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the League of 1000 Men of the Precious Blood and the Holy Name Society, and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Patrick Church. For many years he volunteered as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 101 of St. Raphael Church and was active in the Manchester YMCA.
The family includes his wife of 57 years, Doris (Lemay) LaPointe of Manchester; six children, Johanne L. Lord and Robert L. LaPointe Jr. both of Manchester, Gary C. LaPointe of Elmira, NY, Linda A. Horan of Wellesley, MA, David B. LaPointe of New York, NY and Brenda L. LaPointe of Manchester; 17 grandchildren and one great granddaughter; a sister, Dorothy Baxter of Montgomery, AL; a brother, Raymond LaPointe of Las Vegas, NV; cousins, nieces and nephews.
IN HIS LIFE: Mr. LaPointe was a devoted husband, father and grandfather whose first and greatest love was always his family. He is also lovingly remembered by sons-in-law Walter, Rich and Mark, and daughters-in-law Celeste, Susan and Jean. He was a man of unwavering faith and firm conviction. He enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States and was an expert bird-watcher and an avid gardener. He treasured time spent walking with Dolly at Massabesic Lake and exploring the woods at the family's camp in the White Mountains. He was a man whose happiest days were those spent in the company of family and in the tranquility of nature.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday December 3, 2003 in St. Patrick Church, 138 Coolidge Ave., Manchester. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 474 Goffstown Rd., Manchester.
