He was born in Manchester on December 20, 1923, the son of Wilfred and Dorilea (Dorais) Godbout. He was educated in the local parochial school system.
During WWII, he served in the US Army. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and earned the American and European, African, and Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbons as well as the Victory Medal.
Prior to retirement, he had been employed by Disogrin Industries for many years. Previously, he had worked for Valet Cleaners.
Roger loved gardening, country music, woodworking and following the Boston Red Sox. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family.
Family members include his wife of 55 years, Therese (Filteau) Godbout of Manchester; four sons, Daniel R. Godbout and his wife Patricia of Nottingham, David A. Godbout and his wife Diana of No. Weare, Ronald A. Godbout and his wife Lynne of Hooksett, Raymond R. Godbout and his wife Theresa of Goffstown; one daughter, Diane Dame and her husband Bruce of Derry; seven grandchildren, Lisa Levesque, Jennifer Normandin, Christopher Godbout, Melanie Szulc, Jessica Godbout, Joshua Godbout, and Jonathan Godbout; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Steven Godbout of Manchester; one sister, Irene Quin of Manchester; many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brothers Maurice, Albert, and Gerald Godbout and his sisters Rita Fredette, Janet and Theresa Godbout.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 in Blessed Sacrament Church, So. Elm St. Burial followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 474 Goffstown Road.
