Roger J. Major

Roger J. Major, 91, of Manchester, died January 16, 2018, at Courville Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Manchester on August 6, 1926, he was the son of Theodore and Delia (St. Denis) Major. He attended local schools in Manchester and was a lifelong resident of the city. He served in the US Army during WWII and the Korean War. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sgt. In 1946. Roger worked for over forty years as an electrician and maintenance mechanic for Silver Bothers before retiring in 1991.

Roger was a member of, and spent much of his time volunteering with the Catholic War Veterans where he served as State Commander from 1993-1995. He also volunteered at the VA Hospital. He was a very active parishioner at Parish of Transfiguration. He was a member of the mens' choir and served as the Chairman of the parish Cub Scouts. Roger was very outgoing and social. He enjoyed playing cards and traveling with his wife. Above all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Family includes his beloved wife of 68 years, Laurette (Bourque) Major of Manchester; two daughters, Muriel Dubois of Bedford, and Marie-Ann Demchak and husband Richard of Allenstown; three sons, William Major and wife Barbara of Salisbury, Richard Major and wife Nadere of Salisbury, and Daniel Major and wife Barbara of Cheyenne, WY; eleven grandchildren, Aimee Dubois, Craig Dubois, Elise Dubois, Aaron Major, Steven Major, Ryan Major, Erik Major, Joel Major, Shane Major, Renee Axton, and Jakob Demchak; four great grandchildren, Logan, Sean, Emile, and Julia; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his five brothers, Louis, Donald, Andrew, Armand, and Raymond Major and a sister Doris Widlund. The family would like to express their sincere and heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice and the nursing staff of Courville Nursing Home for their loving support and care that they provided to Roger.
