Roland E. LeClerc, 81, of Deerfield, NH and Englewood, FL died September 21, 2002, in Manchester after a long illness.
Born in Manchester on May 22, 1921, he was the son of Sylvio and Ernestine (Ladriere) LeClerc. Roland lived in Manchester most of his life, though for many years he summered at Northwood Lake and wintered in Englewood, FL.
He served six years in U.S. Navy and saw combat during World War II and the Korean War. While assigned to the USS Essex as a Petty Officer First Class, he received a Unit Commendation for meritorious service against enemy aggressor forces in Korea.
From 1951 to 1959 he owned and operated REL's Snack Bar before working 21 years as a Quality Assurance Inspector for the U.S. Navy. Upon leaving government service, he owned and operated Stacey's Variety on Union St., with his wife Dorothy, for ten years.
Two sons predeceased him: Paul, in 1951 and Daniel, in 1981.
The family includes his wife of 53 years, Dorothy T. (Remillard) LeClerc of Deerfield and Englewood, FL; six children, Donna Doscher of Pittsfield, MA, David LeClerc of Burlington, Vt., Diane Leblond of Weare, Darlene LeClerc-Conley of Manchester, Duane LeClerc of Bedford and Douglas LeClerc of Manchester; 15 grandchildren; a brother, Clement LeClerc of Daytona, FL; a sister, Gabrielle Chauvin of Manchester; many nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass of Christian burial was celebrated Thursday September 26, 2002 in St. Joseph Cathedral, corner of Pine and Lowell streets, Manchester. The burial was at St. Augustin Cemetery, So. Beech St., Manchester. Memorial donations may be made to VNA/Hospice, 1850 Elm St, Manchester, NH 03102.
