Roland R. Tessier, 88, of Manchester, died December 20, 2001, at Villa Crest, after a brief illness.
Born in Manchester, March 12, 1913, he was the son of Romeo G. and Eva (Corbin) Tessier. He was a lifelong resident.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and served in the South Pacific.
Mr. Tessier owned and operated R.G. Tessier Insurance Agency for many years. He retired in 1978.
He served on the Manchester Water Works Commission.
He was a trustee at the former Merchant's Savings Bank, and the Elliot Hospital. He was past president of the New England Fraternal Insurance Association as well as the Canadian American Fraternal Insurance Group. He was a former treasurer of L'Association Canado Americaine, and past president of both the Jolliet and Richelieu Clubs. He was a member of the Manchester Country Club for many years.
Mr. Tessier was a member of Jutras Post 43 and the Last Man's Club.
He was the last surviving member of the First American Legion Baseball Team, and was active with the Babe Ruth League.
Mr. Tessier was a communicant of St. George Church and a member of the League of 1000 Men of the Precious Blood.
He was married to Agnes (King) Tessier, who died in 1993.
Family members include 2 sons, Thomas J. Tessier and Michael E. Tessier, both of Manchester; 2 daughters, Nancy E. Tessier of Manchester, and Mrs. Roger F. (Ruth) Billings of E. Granby, CT; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were December 23, 2001 at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., corner of North St.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated December 24, 2001 in St. George Church. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.
