Rosalind Ekman Ladd, 89, of Lancaster, NH and Providence, RI died Friday October 6, 2023 at Weeks Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.

Born in Manchester, NH, she was the daughter of Nathan & Sonia (Litvin) Ekman.  She was raised in Manchester and graduated from Wheaton College and earned her MA and PhD in Philosophy from Brown University in 1962.  In 1963, she married John Ladd and they enjoyed 46 years of marriage until his death in 2011.

Rosalind was a professor of philosophy at Wheaton College for more than 30 years and a visiting professor in biomedical ethics at Brown University.  She will be remembered for her academic work in the areas of children’s rights, especially in health care, medical decision-making and women’s issues.  She served as a member of the board for the RI Committee for the Humanities and volunteered on various medical ethics committees including at Rhode Island Hospital, Bradley Hospital and Women and Infants Hospital. She was an active scholar until the time of her death.

After her retirement, she wrote including articles for the NH Historical Society and the Coos County Democrat. She served on the board of directors for the Lancaster Historical Society and volunteered at Weeks Memorial Hospital and Weeks Memorial Library. She also enjoyed time in her gardens.

Rosalind is survived by her daughters Sarah Ladd Wheeler & her husband Chris Wheeler of Epsom, NH and their children Ryan Wheeler of Epsom, Anthony Wheeler of Chichester, Brooke Wheeler of Pembroke and Lexie Westover of Colebrook; Deborah Ladd Labonar and her son Zachary Labonar of Chicago;  Molly Ladd-Taylor  and her children Disa Clifford, Julian Clifford and Timothy Clifford of Toronto; and five great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband John Ladd, her brother Sheldon Ekman and her sister Arline Ekman.

SERVICES: A funeral service and burial for Rosalind was held Monday, October 9th at the Manchester Hebrew Cemetery, 316 Beech St.
