Roy G. Barbour

Roy G. Barbour, 95, of Manchester N. H. died on February 23, 2023 at Hospice House in Concord, N.H.

He was born on December 29, 1927 in Campbellton, New Brunswick, Canada to Isabella (Laughlin) and Arthur Barbour.  Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada.  Roy graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.

Upon graduation, Roy moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada to work for the Southern Canada Power Company.  In Montreal, he met the woman he called “the love of his life” Norma.  They had two daughters, Jo-Ann, and Dianne.

In 1963 Roy moved the family to Manchester, N.H. to work for the Public Service Company of New Hampshire as an electrical engineer.  Over the course of his twenty-five years at Public Service he progressed to the position of Vice President for Engineering and Construction. 

Roy and Norma continued their love of curling after the move to Manchester where in 1964 they were members of the curling team that won the first Invitational Mixed Bonspiel at the Nashua Curling Club.

Roy was an active member of the First Congregational Church, serving as a Deacon and Trustee.  He was   an avid Bridge and Cribbage player.  After his retirement in 1988 he was able to enjoy more golfing and fishing, winters in Florida, and honing his skills on a new hobby of woodworking.

He was predeceased by his wife Norma and is survived by his two daughters Jo-Ann Barbour and her husband Gary LeBlanc of Essex, MA; Dianne Barbour of Wells, ME; his grandson Ryan Steiner and his wife Elizabeth Klempa of Medfield MA ; and his two great grandchildren Lillian, and Jake Steiner of Medfield, MA.

SERVICES:  At his request there are no calling hours.  Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.  Memorial donations may be made in his name to Webster House, 135 Webster St., Manchester, NH 03104.
