Russell J. Grady, 85, of Manchester, passed away on October 29, 2014 at Bedford Falls Assisted Living Community with family by his side.

Born in Manchester on March 28, 1929, he was the son of Edward and Elizabeth (Whitmore) Grady.

Russ attended St. Raphael School, was a graduate of St. Joseph High School, and received a Bachelors Degree in history from the University of New Hampshire. He worked for Public Service Company before joining the Army National Guard, and also worked part time as a real estate broker. His military career spanned forty-one years, which included serving in the Field Artillery unit and commanding the 197th Field Artillery Group, and ended in 1989 when he retired with the rank of colonel as United States Property and Fiscal Officer for the state of New Hampshire.

Russ' retirement years were spent traveling with his wife, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and taking care of his home. Reading and discussion about history, politics, and current events was a true passion. He also served as a member of the Diocesan Real Estate Board, providing expertise regarding building and capital improvement projects.

He was predeceased by his infant son, David Grady and brother, Edward Grady.

The family includes his wife of 55 years, Joan L. (Laporte) Grady of Manchester; son, Steven Grady and wife, Teresa, of Hopkinton; two daughters, Caroline Ferris and husband Jeffrey of Kennebunk, ME, and Lisa Baldasaro and husband Nathan of Eliot, ME; five grandchildren, Samuel and Rachel Grady, Melissa and Alexander Ferris, and Bryn Baldasaro.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 in St. Raphael Church, 103 Walker St., Manchester. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, 488 Donald St., Bedford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the NH Alzheimer's Assoc., 5 Bedford Farms Dr., Suite 201, Bedford, NH 03110.
