Sainte Gilberte

Sr. Sainte-Gilberte , 100, of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, Manchester NH died November 7, 2005, at St. Joseph Residence, Manchester NH.

Born in Woonsocket, RI on January 9, 1905, she was the daughter of Leon and Zenaide (Desgreniers) Duhamel.

She entered the Order of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in 1925, made her first profession in 1927, and her final Profession in 1932. She obtained a Bachelor Degree in Music from Rivier College. Sister Ste-Gilberte gave private piano lessons, directed church choirs and was the elementary music teacher in Woonsocket and West Warwick, Rhode Island for 54 years. Upon her retirement from teaching music in 1987 at Our Lady of Victories in Woonsocket, RI she volunteered as a Eucharistic minister to patients in the hospitals and nursing homes in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Sister Gilberte was also known for artistic talents.

She retired at the Presentation of Mary Community in Hudson in 1994 and on March 28, 2000, transferred to St. Joseph Residence in Manchester, NH. In January 2005, she celebrated her 100th birthday with her community, friends and the Nursing personnel at the residence.

She is survived by several cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday November 10, 2005 in Resurrection Chapel 495 Mammoth Rd. Manchester NH.

Burial followed in Precious Blood Cemetery, Woonsocket RI.
