Samuel W. Holland, Jr., 79, of Manchester, died March 10, 2003, at Hanover Hill Health Care Center, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Worth, West Virginia, March 12, 1923, he was the son of Samuel and Louise (Rogers) Holland. He had been a Manchester resident for many years.
Mr. Holland served in the army during World War II. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and an American Theater Campaign Ribbon.
He was a member of the North American Veteran's Association.
Family members include his wife, Janet Phelps-Holland, of Manchester; 6 children, 25 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, George Sebastian, of Manchester, Ronald Chainey, Jr., of Manchester, Bruce Chainey, of Plymouth, MA, Bernard "Skippy" Phelps, IV, Mark Phelps, Scott Phelps, all of Manchester, and Robin Reeves, of Waxahachie, TX.
A memorial service was Friday March 14, 2003 in the Southside Bible Fellowship, 200 So. Jewett St., Manchester.
Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester, was in charge of arrangements.
