Shirley Guilbault

Sr. Shirley Guilbault, CSC, (Sr. Mary Alfred of Citeaux), 82, of the Sisters of Holy Cross died November 12, 2012 at Holy Cross Health Center in Manchester.

She was born in Fairfield, VT on November 14, 1929 to Alfred and Mildred (LaBounty) Guilbault. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Holy Cross in 1948 and made her final profession in 1955. She served the Congregation for 64 years.

She earned a bachelor's degree from Notre Dame College in Manchester and taught elementary school in New Bedford, MA. She then served in foreign missions for the people of Bangladesh for seven years. Upon returning she earned a master's degree from Southern University of New York in Albany, NY.

Sr. Shirley worked for the Consultation Services of the Diocese of Manchester and as assistant to the Provincial for six years. She also ministered to abused mothers at New Life Dwelling Place in Florida for several years. In recent years she served as a seamstress at St. George Manor and transferred to Holy Cross Health Center in 2009, both in Manchester.

The family includes a sister, Jane Guilbault of St. Albans, VT; two brothers, Alfred Guilbault and his wife, Mae, and Anthony Guilbault and his wife, Barbara, all of St. Albans, VT; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, November 15, 2012 in the chapel of St. George Manor, 357 Island Pond Rd., Manchester. Committal prayers followed at St. Augustin Cemetery, Manchester.
