Shirley I. Marshall, 86, of Bedford, formerly of Goffstown, passed away on December 16, 2021, at Bedford Falls, after a period of declining health.
Born in Manchester on January 3, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Wylie B. and Irene B. (Bumpus) Marshall. She was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1952. She was graduated from Colby Jr. College in 1954 and earned her bachelor's degree in business from UConn in 1956 where she received awards of achievement in the insurance field. Immediately after graduation, Shirley started her career working in her family's business, The Wylie B. Marshall Insurance Agency as office manager, for 25 years, before retiring in 1977.
Shirley was an avid reader, loved well made films, and had a passion for learning. In her younger days, she loved to play the piano and enjoyed classical music. She was highly intelligent and extremely well educated. She continued her education by completing a 5-yr insurance course in 2 years. In 1961, she received the designation of Certified Property & Casualty Underwriting, making her the first woman in New Hampshire at that time to earn and receive this achievement. She also enjoyed traveling across the United States and took extended trips to Europe.
Shirley is survived by her sister, Wylene Fuller of Manchester; her nephew, Robert W. Fuller and his wife Tracy of Haverhill, MA; and two great nephews, Alexander and Joel Fuller of Haverhill, MA. She was predeceased by both parents.
SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 28th at 11:00am at Pine Grove Cemetery, Calef Rd., Manchester, NH 03103. Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
The family extends its appreciation and many thanks to the staff of Bedford Falls especially her one-on-one companion, Doris Hargrove who cared for her over three years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice in Shirley's memory.
