Shirley Anne (LaRose) (Lafiria) Marino, 91, of Manchester, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester.
Shirley was born on February 2, 1934 at home in Berlin, VT to the late Howard and Irene (Lewis) LaRose. Born in a snowstorm before the Doctor arrived, her early years consisted of a flurry of activities as the fifth of seven children. During the World War II rubber shortage, her brothers took her dolls and donated them to the public scrap drives. Shirley graduated from Montpelier High School in 1952. She worked secretarial jobs for Insurance Companies and later for many years at Structures Unlimited Inc before retiring in 2000.
Shirley married Frank E. Lafirira on June 27, 1953. They had a son, John Charles Lafirira. Frank tragically passed away May 26, 1958. In 1963, Shirley married Peter J. Marino who was also widowed with a daughter, Lisa Marino. Together, they had three children, Mark, and twins Judy and Jane before divorcing in 1971.
Shirley was active in the Mothers of Twins Club for many years and enjoyed sewing and quilting. She traveled several times to Hawaii, as well as to Alaska and throughout New England on quilting trips where she made many friends. She was a member of the Amoskeag Quilters Guild and the Knotty Ladies Quilting Group where she shared her talents and love of quilting.
Shirley was a loved daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, and friend. May her legacy live on through the lives she touched.
In addition to her beloved parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her sister: Elnora Straw; and her brothers: Donald, Lawrence, Lee and Paul LaRose.
She is survived by her four children: John Lafirira and his wife Tami of Meadows Of Dan, VA, Mark Marino and his wife Joan of Deerfield, NH, Judy Curtis and her husband Christopher of Templeton, CA and Jane Marino of Fort Collins, CO; her brother: Kenneth Santor and his wife Marjorie of Montpelier, VT; her four grandchildren: John Lafirira II and his fiancé Anais, Harley Harrison and his fiancé Katelyn, Elizabeth Tanguay and her husband Cody and Katherine Marino; and many loved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm Street, Manchester from 1pm to 2pm. A prayer service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 2pm. Burial will be held at North Branch Cemetery in Middlesex, VT in the spring.
