Simonne I. Binette

Simonne I. (Martel) Binette, 91, of Manchester, died January 21, 2008 at Catholic Medical Center after a period of declining health.

She was born in Manchester, December 18, 1916, and was the daughter of David and Rose Anna (Beliveau) Beliveau. She was a lifelong resident of this city.

She worked for J.F. McElwain Shoe Co. and for International Shoe Co. She later worked for Caldor, Ames, and Bradley's Department Stores.

Mrs. Binette was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church where she was very active in many church activities. Among them, she organized the Sacred Heart Church Penny Sale for more than 20 years.

She was a past president of the Sodality of St. Anne of Sacred Heart parish, a member of Les Dames de Charite, Les Coeurs Joyeux, Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary, L'Association Canado Americaine, and the Ladies Guild of Hillsborough County Nursing Home. She was a very active member of the William Cashin Senior Center and a former board member of Save CMC.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Gerard J. Martel, who died in 1972, and by her second husband, Leonard A. Binette, who died in 1978.

She leaves a daughter, Sr. Rita Martel, PM of Methuen, MA; a son, Andre A. Martel and his wife, Simone, of Manchester; five grandchildren, John Martel, Steven Martel, Philip Martel, SPC4 Matthew Martel, US Army and Lauren Martel, all of Manchester; two sisters, Rita Lombardo, and Irene Duchane, both of Manchester; a brother in-law, Arthur Perry Jr., of Goffstown; four sisters in-law, Lucille Chouinard, of Biddeford, ME, Florence Cote, Yvette Vachon, and Therese Poissant, all of Manchester; many nieces & nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday January 24, 2008 at Sacred Heart Church. A committal service followed in Mt. Calvary Mausoleum, 474 Goffstown Rd. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
