Sister Irene C. Ricard, CSC, (Sister Mary Antoinette Martyr), 83, died December 8, 2017 at the Elliot Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Pembroke, NH (Suncook) on July 19, 1934, she was the sixth child of Wilfred E. and Antoinette (Laliberte) Ricard.
Sister Irene entered the Sisters of Holy Cross at St. Laurent, Quebec in 1953. She made her final profession in 1960 and served her Congregation for sixty-four years.
Sister earned a Bachelor's degree from Notre Dame College, Manchester, NH; a Master's degree from Fairfield University, Fairfield, CT and an Associate degree in counseling from NHTI in Concord, NH.
Sister Irene ministered in the field of education for forty-seven years: Elementary and Junior High in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, at Notre Dame College in Manchester for twenty years. She completed her teaching career as Lecturer in English and Writing assistant at the ARC (Academic Resource Center) of St. Anselm College for eight years.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Aime E. "Tex" Ricard in 2003, Antonio "Tony" Ricard in 2001 and one sister, Doris Ricard Demers in 2004. She was also predeceased by twin sisters in infancy.
She leaves her three nieces, Sandra Joyce of Londonderry, NH, Karen Thomas of Goffstown, NH and her nephew Donald Ricard's widow Chrisoula Ricard as well as grand nephews and grand nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 in the chapel at the Sisters of Holy Cross, 357 Island Pond Road, Manchester. Burial will be in St. Augustin Cemetery, Manchester.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Sisters of Holy Cross Development Fund, care of Sisters of Holy Cross, 365 Island Pond Road, Manchester, NH 03109.
