Sister Solange Dupont (Sr. Claire du Precieux Sang) 93, of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, Manchester, New Hampshire, died March 16, 2005, at St. Joseph Residence, Manchester. NH, after 67 years of religious life
Born November 30, 1911, in Manchester, NH, she was the daughter of Adelard and Emma (Caron) Dupont. She came from a family of 20 children that included two priests and two religious Sisters.
She entered the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in 1936, in Canada, made her first Profession in 1938, and her final Profession in 1943. She received a B.A. from the University of Montreal, Canada, and an MA. in French from Rivier College, Nashua., NH. She did Post-graduate work in French and Spanish.
From 1938 until 1969. she taught in the English Departments at Presentation of Mary High Schools in Granby and Farnham in Canada. She was transferred to the United States in 1969, and taught at St. Marie High School. Manchester, NH. From 1973 until her retirement in 1999, she taught in the French Department at Presentation of Mary Academy in Hudson, NH. Sister Claire was student advisor for many French competitions in which her students excelled. She coached the PMA basketball team and was active in many school sports.
She retired at the Presentation of Mary Community in Hudson. NH. but continued as a tutor in French.
She is survived by one sister: Marie-Claire Gosselin, Goffstown, NH; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by 18 siblings.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Saturday March 19, 2005 in the Resurrection Chapel. Burial was in Presentation of Mary Cemetery, Hudson.
