Sr. Catherine Ann Conroy, CSC, of the Sisters of Holy Cross, died peacefully on May 12, 2025 at the Holy Cross Health Center in Manchester at the age of 90.
Catherine Ann was born July 20, 1934 in Plattsburg, NY, the daughter of John James Conroy and Florence E. Phair.
She spent several years as a school nurse in Plattsburg, NY. She later obtained graduate credits in Religious Education from St. Michael’s College in Colchester, VT. She then worked as a Director of Religious Education for Sacred Heart Parish in Rouses Point in the Diocese of Ogdensburg, NY.
Because of Ann’s love of working with and for children, she started taking in foster children. Eventually, in 1980, this led her to adopt two siblings, Patricia, age 14, and Raymond, age 15. For Ann, this was the most memorable time of her life.
After the children left home, Ann felt a call to religious life. Having been associated with some religious sisters, she decided to pursue that avenue. She began her initial formation with the Sisters of Holy Cross in 1992 and pronounced her final vows in 1997. She served for thirty-two years. During those years, she continued ministering to children. She was a child care worker at New Life Dwelling Place in Thonotosassa, FL, then at Marguerite’s Place in Nashua and St. Peter’s Home in Manchester.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Ellen Conroy and Kathleen Beauvais.
She is survived by her two adopted children, Patricia Conroy Meeker of Lowville, NY and Raymond Conroy of Phoenix, AZ; two granddaughters, Stephanie Bergin and Alyssa Leonard; several great grandchildren; two nieces, Suzanne Barton of Plattsburg, NY and Mary Catherine Curry of Mahopac, NY; three great grandnieces and two great grandnephews.
