Sister Evelyn Boucher (Sr. Mary of St. Louis of Toulouse) passed away at the Holy Cross Health Center January 28, 2026. She was born in Barre, VT on May 23,1930 to Aurore (Genest) Boucher and Joseph Louis Boucher. In 1949, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Holy Cross where she pronounced her final vows in 1958.
A very capable teacher and librarian, Sister Evelyn ministered twenty-six years as an elementary school teacher and seven years as school librarian in various schools in the New England States before going on to serve for two years in the same capacity at Punaka High School in Bhutan, Asia. With generosity and zeal, she then participated in a collaborative project within the family of Holy cross in the Bronx, New York where, once again, she worked as a librarian while experimenting, together with other Holy Cross members, with new forms of community life. Her deep and faith-filled devotion to Our Lady was a great gift as she labored for the next seventeen years in the Apostolate of the Rosary in Peru and in Chile. Upon returning to New Hampshire, she again gave herself to the work of school librarian for another five years in a parish school.
If Sister Evelyn could serve young people, whether they be students in a library, children in her Girl Scout Troop, young contestants in the yearly international Family Contest of the Rosary Apostolate in So. America, she clearly felt that she was contributing to the mission of the Church, to the mission of Holy Cross. And this she did, with great generosity and zeal throughout a long and fruitful lifetime of apostolic work.
A time of Remembrance and Prayer for Sister Evelyn Boucher is scheduled for Thursday, May 7, 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Friday, May 8, 2026. Both services will take place in the chapel of St. George Manor at 357 Island Pond Road in Manchester, NH.
