Sr. Marguerite R. Gravel, CSC

Sister Marguerite Gravel (Alphonse de Naples) entered eternal life on March 24, 2024. Sister Marguerite was born in Springfield, MA on January 31, 1932. She was the daughter of Alphonse Gravel and Maria Bourassa.

Sister Marguerite is survived by sister, Marie Lombardi, of Southport, NC. She is pre-deceased by her brother, Mike Gravel.

A sister of Holy Cross for 73 years, Sister entered the congregation in 1950 and pronounced her final vows in 1957. She earned a BA from Assumption College in Worcester, MA. For several years she taught in Parochial schools in Manchester and Nashua, NH, North Grosvenordale, CT, and Attleboro, MA. Sister Marguerite also taught ESL in the Bronx, NY and was later manager of St. Charles Jubilee Senior Center in Brooklyn, NY from 1991-1993.

Sister served as a missionary for 10 years in S.E. Alaska (1973-1983). She founded the Sisters of Holy Cross mission in Lima, Peru in 1987, and served in Mali, W. Africa in 1993. Upon returning to Manchester, Sister Marguerite worked at Hillsboro County Department of Correction for 12 years.

SERVICES: A special celebration of Sr. Marguerite’s life will take place during the last hour of her wake that is scheduled from 2:00-4:00 pm on Thursday, April, 4, 2024, and her funeral will be held on Friday, April 5 at 10:00 am. Both services will take place in the St. George Manor Chapel, 357 Island Pond Road, Manchester, NH.
