Staff Sergeant Charles Edward Dane, USMC, 37, of Auburn, NH died June 25, 2009 in Bridgeport, California.

He was born in Manchester, NH on July 14, 1971, the son of Charlen J. (Dane) McLean. He was a graduate of Lawrence, MA High School, class of 1989.

Since entering the Marine Corps in 1994, Staff Sergeant Dane served three tours in Iraq, two tours in Kosovo, and one tour in both Bosnia and Afghanistan. He was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, 6 Sea Service Deployment Ribbons as well as the Combat Action Ribbon.

He loved to play chess, video games, and was a sports enthusiast. Most of all, he loved serving his country as a Marine.

Family members include his mother, Charlen J. McLean and step-father Daniel E. McLean of Auburn, NH; one brother, Daniel McLean of Auburn; one sister, Jennifer McLean of Auburn; his aunts, Pam Dudley of Belmont, NH, Diane Watters and her husband John of Wilmington, MA; his uncles, Lenny Dane of Derry, NH, Gary Dane of Derry, George McLean and his wife Pam of North Reading, MA, Micheal McLean and his wife Donna of Reading, John McLean and his wife Anne of Somerville, MA; many cousins.

A funeral service and burial with full military honors was held Monday, July 6, 2009 in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
