Col. Stanley L. Anderson, USAF Ret., 98, of Manchester, died November 30, 2022 at Community Hospice House in Merrimack after a brief period of declining health.
He was born in Blandford, MA on February 4, 1924 to Conrad and Anna (Svenson) Anderson. He attended American International College in Springfield, MA and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA.
Col. Anderson served in the U.S. Air Force for 30 years. During World War II he was a B-17 pilot and participated in 50 combat bombing missions in the European Theater of Operations. Later in his military career he was a finance and budget officer and member of the Air Force Audit Agency. He served tours of duty in Italy, Newfoundland, France and England. Among his many awards and decorations were the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, World War II Victory Medal and many Bronze Service Stars.
He had been an active resident at Birch Hill Terrace /Riverwoods of Manchester for the past five years and served on various committees.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara (Chapin) Anderson and his second wife, Vilma (Alman) Anderson.
Stanley is survived by his wife, Anita (Metivier) Anderson; a son, Christopher D. Anderson; and five step children, Steven Harsfald and his husband, Henry Wong, David Metivier and his wife, Cheryl, Marc Metivier and his wife, Kathy, Michelle Small and her husband, Rich, and Denis Metivier and his wife, Peggy.
SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A cemetery committal service is Tuesday (12/6) at 11 a.m. at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen.
