Stephen B. Roy, 50, of Auburn, NH died at his home on June 19, 2005 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous 5-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Mr. Roy was born in Manchester on August 13, 1954, the son of Bernard (Ben) Roy and Gloria (Kelley) Roy. He was educated in the local schools, graduating from Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in 1968 and Trinity High School in 1972, where he excelled as a pitcher on the baseball team. He was also a pitcher for American Legion Henry J. Sweeney Post.
Mr. Roy attended St. Anselm College and later enlisted in the US Army. Following his discharge, he became a member of Ironworkers Local 474. After attending Wentworth Institute in Boston, he joined his father in the family business, Kelly Construction Inc. of Manchester.
Following his father's retirement, Mr. Roy became co-owner of Kelly Construction Inc. along with his brother, Thomas. He was a member of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Building Contractors. He was an avid golfer who also enjoyed fishing.
He coached baseball for several years at Manchester South Little League.
Stephen was a very special man, brave and strong to the end. As he fought his illness, he was very devoted to Donna, Jennifer, Jonathan, and "the joy of his life" Hailie Elizabeth. He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend who loved unconditionally. He will be sorely missed and never forgotten.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Donna A. (Jolicoeur) Roy of Auburn, who was also his caregiver; a daughter, Jennifer Roy of Hooksett; a son, Jonathan S. Roy of Auburn; his parents, Ben and Gloria Roy of Manchester; beloved granddaughter, Hailie Elizabeth of Hooksett; one brother, Thomas Roy and his wife Lisa of Hooksett; two sisters, Mrs. Don (Nancy) Rankin of Wilton, NH, and Mrs. Robert (Judi) Tefft of Derry; a sister-in-law, Connie H. Roy of Litchfield, NH; two nephews, two nieces, and several cousins.
A memorial mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Catherine Church on Thursday June 23, 2005. Private committal prayers and burial were in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.
