Stuart E. Sargent, 92, died September 11, 2025, at Havenwood Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Wolfboro, NH on May 21, 1933, he was the son of the late Willard and Eunice (Brock) Sargent. He was educated in New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey; was a graduate of Ramsey High School, and earned his bachelor’s degree in electronics from Wentworth University.
In June of 1953, Stuart joined the US Navy. After boot camp and electronics school, he was stationed on the USS Dortch, DD670 as an electronics technician. His tours of duty included two trips to the Mediterranean, a trip to Cuba and a trip to Ecuador. . After four years of service, he was honorably discharged at the rank of Electronics Technician, Petty Officer Second Class in 1957.
After leaving the Navy, Stuart worked for Raytheon, High Voltage Engineering, Avco, Sanders Association Modicon and BAE. He retired after 36 years, in 1993. Stuart then worked various part-time jobs, taught introduction to computer classes at the Senior Center and was very active, along with his wife, in Boy Scouts, Troop 74, in Chelmsford, MA.
Stuart met the love of his life, Elizabeth Papen, on a blind date set up by his brother Bruce, while home on leave from the Navy. After many may more dates, they were married in August of 1955. He and Betsy raised a family of four sons in Chelmsford, MA and were later blessed with a granddaughter and one great grandson.
While visiting friends in Florida in 2002, Stuart and Betsy purchased a home in Port Orange. They became snowbirds until 2005 when they established permanent residency in Florida, surviving several hurricanes, with minimal damage. After Betsy’s passing in August of 2017, Stuart made the decision to move back to New England, to be with his family, moving to Heritage Heights, Concord, NH, in 2019.
Stuart enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hiking and gardening with Betsy. They had several gardens and grew beautiful orchids. Stuart also enjoyed playing cribbage, computers and was an avid collector of Swarovski crystals. He was extremely outgoing, very thoughtful and loved helping others. Stuart had a deep love for his boys and his family and above all else, will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend.
Stuart was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Papen) Sargent.
Surviving family members include four sons, Christopher Sargent of Lowell, MA, Brian Sargent and wife Sarah of Candia, NH, Gary Sargent of Deering, NH and David Sargent of Deering, NH and wife Lee; one granddaughter, Jessica Sargent of Shirley, MA; one great grandson, Alfie Helin of Shirley, MA; and one sister-in-law, Anne Papen of Center Sandwich, NH.
SERVICES: Calling hours are from 1pm to 3pm with a memorial service beginning promptly at 3pm on Sunday, Sept. 21st, at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematorium, 1799 Elm St., corner of North St., Manchester, NH 03104.
