Sr. Sylvia Trottier (Sr. Louis-Pierre), 93, of the Presentation of Mary Sisters, 495 Mammoth Rd., Manchester, NH died May 6, 2002 at her residence.
Born in Manchester on June 25, 1908, she was the daughter of Edouard and Sarah (Mailhot) Trottier. She entered the congregation of the Presentation of Mary Sisters in 1926, made her first profession in 1928 and made her final profession in 1933.
She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Rivier College, Nashua, NH and a master's degree in chemistry from Catholic University of America. She did post graduate studies at Boston University, the University of Notre Dame, Mount Holyoke College and Cornell University.
Sr. Trottier taught at St. Benedict School in Cascade, NH from 1938 to 1942. She then was transferred to Rivier College where she served until her retirement. She also ministered two years in Exeter, England.
She lived in Hudson until 1997, then in Manchester at St. Joseph Residence.
During her 51 years at Rivier College, she was professor and chair of the chemistry department; an active member of administrative and academic committees; a resident assistant for 15 years; the first director of athletics; coordinator of student social activities and a faculty representative on the Alumni Board. She also served on the New Hampshire State Science Fair Committee.
Sr. Trottier was named Faculty Emerita in 1986 by the trustees of Rivier College. In 1989, she received the alumni board's highest honor, the Sister Madeleine of Jesus Award. She received an honorary degree of Doctor of Education in 1993. In 1998, the trustees renamed "Louis Pasteur Hall" and the new addition to the building to "Sylvia Trottier Hall"..
The family includes four nieces.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday May 8, 2002 pm. in the Resurrection Chapel. Burial was in Presentation of Mary Cemetery, Hudson, NH
