Theodora Macaronas

Theodora (Stamoulis) Macaronas, 88, of Manchester died on February 12, 2011 after a period of declining health.

She was born in Boston, MA on February 4, 1923, the daughter of George and Mary (Angelicus) Stamoulis.

Prior to becoming a homemaker, she worked as a hairdresser in Boston. She and her husband moved to Manchester in 1950.

A member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Theodora was very active in her church community, having volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher, Jr. GOYA Advisor, and held membership in the NOA Auxiliary, Daughters of Penelope, and Anagennesis Society. She was a co-founder of the Tuesday Ladies Workshop at the Cathedral. For many years, she could be found at the boutique table at the annual church Glendi. She had also spent time volunteering for the American Red Cross.

In her spare time she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, spending time with her family and traveling. Several trips were made to Greece, including a visit to her parent's home island of Samos.

Her husband of 40 years, Louis T. Macaronas, predeceased her in 1989.

She was also predeceased by her brother, Emmanuel Stamoulis of Pompano Beach, FL.

Family members include daughter Maria Macaronas Hand and husband Bruce of Bedford, NH, daughter Denise Macaronas of South Portland, ME, and son, Thomas Macaronas of Coffeyville, Kansas. She also has five grandchildren, Christina Hand, Ian Hand, Alison Hand, Erin Macaronas and Nicholas Macaronas and two great-granddaughters, Alexia and Thalia Prodanis. She is survived by one sister, Bessie Papageorg of Dorchester, MA; and nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover St, Manchester. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery.
