Theodore J. "Ted" Cusson, Sr.

Theodore J. “Ted” Cusson, Sr., 87, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family, on November 26, 2023.

He was born in Danielson, CT on October 21st, 1936. He was the youngest son of Major Joseph Cusson and Ida (Beaudoin) Cusson.

Mr. Cusson served in the military and was a graduate of the Adjutant General’s School at the Army Finance Center and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Infantry’s “Screamin’ Eagles Division. He was Honorably Discharged in 1957.

He was a licensed commercial and multi-engine rated pilot and as a Chief Warrant Officer was assigned to the Connecticut Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. He participated in several search and rescue missions. He was a member of the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association. In Connecticut he was a State Fee Appraiser and a member of the American Right of Way Association and the Society of Real Estate Appraisers.

In 1973 he relocated to Manchester, New Hampshire and continued his appointment as Superintendent of Agencies for the Association Canado-Americaine. He was a member of the General Agents and Managers Group, National Association of Life Underwriters and held an F.I.L. (Fraternal Insurance Counsellor) designation. In 1972 he was elected to the ACA’s Board of Directors and subsequently elected President of its Scholarship Commission. In 1989 he was named “Franco-American of the Year” by the NH Franco-American Federation. After 37 years of service in both the U.S. and Canada he retired.

In 1986 he was licensed as a NH Real Estate Broker and founded “Cusson Associates” Property Development Group. He was a member of the Greater Manchester Board of Realtors.

In 1987 he was elected to the House of Representatives and served on the Executive Department and Administration Committee. During that time, he accepted an appointment from Mayor Emile Beaulieu and was the Administrative Assistant for the City of Manchester. He was a Director of the Greater Manchester Development Corporation and a member of its Executive Committee. In May 1995, he was appointed to the New Hampshire – Canadian Trade Council.

After completing a five-year term as Bail Commissioner for the Manchester District Court and the New Hampshire Superior Courts he was licensed by the Bureau of Securities as a Bail Bondsman. He was also a Hillsborough County Superior Court Officer.

Mr. Cusson was a member of several social, business, and professional organizations including the US Jaycees, the Chamber of Commerce, National Fraternal Insurance Counselors, National Association of Life Underwriters, American Legion, Societe Historique de Boston, Club Richelieu, St. Georges’ Court of the ACA, and a member of the Intervale Country Club.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Legion of One Thousand Men, and a parishioner of Saint Catherine’s of Manchester. His most enjoyable hobbies were traveling, fine foods and wines. He did enjoy an occasional round of golf or an afternoon of fishing.

Above all his accomplishments, Ted’s greatest was his family. Ted is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marie Cotnoir Cusson (formerly of Putnam, CT) of Manchester and his six children and their spouses: Lynn (Cusson) McDonald of Manchester, Theodore J. Cusson, Jr. of Hooksett, Michele (Cusson) Vincent and her husband Denis of Candia, Carolyn (Cusson) Howard and her husband Charles of Manchester, Marc and Christine Cusson of Goffstown and Thomas and Sandra Cusson of Sanford, Florida. Ted is also survived by his eleven grandchildren: Amy Gill, Allison Howard-Berry, Jonathan Howard, Michele Caravan, Zachary Cusson, Kyle Cusson, Spencer Cusson, Olivia Vincent, Chloe Cusson, Victoria Vincent, Mitchell Cusson. Ted has eight great grandchildren as well that continually made him laugh and smile.

SERVICES:  Calling hours will be Friday, December 1st, from 4:00 – 6:00pm and Saturday, December 2nd from 9:00 – 10:00am at Lambert Funeral Home, 1799 Elm Street, Manchester.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday December 2nd at 10:30am at St. Catherine’s Church, 267 Webster Street, Manchester.
