Sister Therese Carignan, CSC, (Sister Mary Alphonse of the Immaculate), 89, of 357 Island Pond Rd., Manchester, died March 12, 2007, at Catholic Medical Center.

She was born in Somersworth, NH, May 23, 1917, and was the daughter of Alphonse and Mary (Guilmette) Carignan.

She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Holy Cross in 1938 and made her final Profession in 1944. She served in the Congregation for 69 years.

She earned a BA from Notre Dame College, Manchester, NH.

Sr. Therese taught in elementary parochial schools and was stationed in Nashua and Newmarket, NH, New Bedford and Springfield, MA, and St. Raphael's in Ontario. She was also stationed in Pittsfield, NH where she was an aid to the Regional Treasurer. She also served in the Finance Office for 20 years.

She retired to St. George Manor, Manchester, NH in 1991 and was later transferred to Holy Cross Health Center in 2002.

Family members include several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday March 14, 2007 in St. George Manor Chapel. Burial was in St. Augustin Cemetery, Manchester.

In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to the Sisters of Holy Cross Development Fund, 377 Island Pond Rd., Manchester, NH 03109.

Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., was in charge of arrangements.
