Thomas Joseph 'Tom' Baker

April 25, 1964 — April 12, 2026

Auburn

Thomas Joseph “Tom” Baker, age 61, of Auburn, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born on April 25, 1964 in Framingham, MA to the late Richard & Margaret (Geoghegan) Baker. He grew up in Keene, NH in a large family filled with laughter and adventure. He graduated from Keene High School and received an Electrical Engineering Technology degree from the University of New Hampshire (UNH). Among his proudest achievements was launching a start-up laser company, and in wanting to learn more about the business side of the company, returned to UNH to receive a Master of Business Administration degree.

Tom loved people – meeting them, talking with them, helping them. He would drop what he was doing to have a conversation with you and had an uncanny ability to remember the details of his conversations. He was an old-school neighbor, helping people with their lawn mowers, clearing their driveways, teaching their kids how to shoot a basketball, and always waving to local police officers. For more than 10 years, Tom was a Den Leader and Cub Master for the Boy Scouts of America and Auburn Pack 127 and was known for hands-on, fun activities for the scouts and their eager siblings, as well as mentoring their parents. He was also an assistant Scout Master with Troop 135 in Manchester.

More than anything, Tom adored his family. He was lovingly married for 28 years to Janice (Morin) Baker and although he didn’t have his Baker’s dozen, he was blessed with four children. With four under the age of six, he became a stay-at-home dad and said it was the best adventure he ever had. Over many years of sports, scouts, school activities, and summer days at our family camp on the lake, Tom made sure to teach his children important life lessons and values, including how to laugh and have fun. He was without a doubt, the best boat driver on Lake Winnekeag, logging many hours towing his children, their cousins, and many others.

Tom was known for his energy and positive attitude, as well as his ability to fix and build anything. He built so many things: the backyard barn, basketball court, ice rink, basement, kitchens, bathrooms at home and camp. One of his last projects was building a 14-foot table at camp so family, friends, and whoever happened to drop by that day had a seat at the table.

In addition to his wife, Janice, he is survived by his four children: daughters Emily and Olivia Baker; and sons Sam and Ryan Baker, all of Auburn, NH; his six siblings and their spouses: twin-brother, Bill Baker and his partner Janice, of Dublin, NH, Richard Baker & Leisa Mingo of West Newbury, MA, John & Betsy Baker of West Boylston, MA, Margaret & John Aldrich, of Holliston, MA, Mary & Kevin Westcott, of Swanzey, NH; Henry & Julie Baker, of Newton, MA; also 20 nieces & nephews and 29 first cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant brother, James Baker.
