Thomas R. Stewart, 76, of Goffstown, formerly of Manchester, died March 20, 2018 after a period of declining health surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Manchester on May 28, 1941, he was the son of Thomas A. and Jacqueline M. (Bourque) Stewart. He was educated in the local school system and graduated from Central High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy and served aboard the USS Mississinewa during the Vietnam War.
Prior to retirement, Tom had worked as a meat cutter for a local company in Manchester and as a laborer for a construction company.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, travelling to Canada occasionally for sport trips with friends. His pea soup had a notoriety among family and friends demonstrating his cooking skills. While he clearly enjoyed golf, having followed in his father's Scottish footsteps, he loved to overplay his ability to his family.
Tom was a member of the American Legion and had served his community as a representative in the NH House of Representatives.
Family members include his wife, Elaine (Bastian) Stewart of Goffstown; his children, Scott Stewart and wife Karlene of Largo, FL, Peter Stewart and wife Ann Marie of Beadenton, FL, Christine and husband Shawn Bartlett of Largo, FL, Tammy and Brandon Markiewicz of Largo, FL, Barbara Rousseau and husband Mark of Durham, NC, Kathryn "Dale" Aumann and husband Derick of Hooksett, James Robinson and wife Elizabeth of Litchfield, Martha Poissant of Manchester; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his mother, Jacqueline M. (Bourque) Stewart of Manchester; his sisters, Sue Heroux and husband Edward of Manchester, Linda Ducharme and husband Richard of Weare; several nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother John Stewart.
A committal service with military burial honors was celebrated on Thursday, March 29, 2018 in the NH Veterans Cemetery, 110 DW Highway, Boscawen.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Shiloh Christian Fellowship, 55 Edmond St, Manchester, NH 03102.
