Veneta P. Cleary, longtime resident of Auburn, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024, at St. Teresa Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Auburn, on July 26, 1931, daughter of the late Miner and Edith (Baines) Preston, Veneta was a graduate of Central High School and later went on to work at her husband’s business, ARC Electrostatic Painting. She was instrumental as a detailed office manager and bookkeeper for many years, retiring in 1995.
Veneta proudly served as a secretary for the Auburn Historical Association, and alongside her sister, volunteered in many of their events.
Veneta was an accomplished golfer and had a deep love for the game, competing in many of the state championships over the years. In her younger years Veneta also enjoyed bowling, skating and skiing. She also enjoyed creating memories with those she loved poolside or by the beach.
Above all, Veneta was an amazing mother and loved caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Veneta is lovingly remembered by her son, Michael P. Cleary, Sr. and his wife, Debra of Auburn; three daughters, Karen Long and her husband, Patrick of Manchester, Jill Cleary of Bayfield, CO and Deirdre Cleary of Auburn; six grandchildren, Sean Cleary, Michael Cleary, Jr., Darcy Beirne, Matthew Seavey, Jonathan Seavey and Summer Venagro; twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Theda Burgess and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Gene J. Cleary; her grandson, P.J. Cleary and her siblings, Rena Dubois and Cedric Preston.
