Victor Louis Lafond

Victor Louis Lafond, 92, of Tilton, NH, died May 17, 2024 at the New Hampshire Veterans Home (where he resided since 2009) due to a sudden decline in his health. He lived an active life there, and shortly before he passed, he was thrilled to ride in the Veterans Home van for a parade in Franklin, NH.

 Born in Manchester, NH, on October 31, 1931, Victor was the son of George and Blanche (Fraser) Lafond, and was the youngest of seven children -- Robert, Harold, Arthur, Maurice, Wilfred, and Irene. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, where he was taught in French as well as English. After high school, as the mills were closing, he moved to Cleveland, joining his brother Maurice there to find better factory jobs. 

 He fought in the Korean War with the U.S. Army from 1952-1954, and drove an ammunition truck. Years later, he received a 60th Anniversary Service Award for Korean Veterans. 

 After the war, he worked as a machinist for TRW and Eaton Manufacturing in Cleveland. He lived in Ohio for 25 years, where he married and had two children, Linda and Daniel, who liked going on summer vacations to New Hampshire. Later, Victor moved back to Manchester to be near family. 

Victor loved boxing since childhood, and boxed while he was in the Army, never losing a fight. He was also friends with pro boxer Bobby Murphy. He was an avid reader, and enjoyed being out in the sun, and watching the Law and Order TV series. At the Veterans Home, he looked forward to field trips and live music entertainment, and was a big fan of singer Jackie Lee. 

 He was predeceased by his parents, siblings, and his son, Daniel Louis Lafond in 2011.

 Family members include his daughter, Linda Marie Lafond, of Willoughby, Ohio, who will miss his videochats, his nephew Ron Vanasse of Laconia, NH, whose visits he enjoyed, and many other nieces and nephews. 

 A military service will be held for Victor at a later date.
