Vincent J. Capowski

Vincent J. Capowski, 76, of Moultonborough, died June 4, 2008. He was born November 7, 1931, in Yonkers NY, and was the son of Julian and Genevieve(Wroblewski) Capowski.

In 1949, Vincent graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in Bronx NY, and in 1953, he received his AB from Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore MD. Subsequent to two years service in the United States Army, he received an MA and PhD in American History, from Fordham University, in the Bronx NY.

For over 40 years Vincent taught at St. Anselm College, starting as an instructor and finishing as a full Professor. In addition he served as both assistant and associate Dean and as such was the first non- Benedictine Community member to serve in the academic administration. In that office he began the summer school program, wrote the original faculty handbook for the college, and wrote the curriculum for the Integrated Liberal Studies program. He taught for many years throughout the State in the Law Enforcement education Program.

At St. Anselm he was chairman of the history department, and twice chairman to the College's reevaluation committee. He served as the President of the American Association of University Professors, the Board of Directors of the NH Humanities Council, a charter member of the National Museum of the American Indian, the Manchester Historic Society, and the Moultonborough Historic Society.

He served on the Board of the Opera League of NH, a member of the Currier Art Museum, AARP, NH retired teachers association as well as a founding member of the Manchester NAACP.

IN HIS LIFE: Family members include his wife, Alice (Cirillo) Capowski, of Moultonborough; 3 daughters, Elizabeth Capowski, of Madison WI, Catherine, and her husband James St. Jean, of Canton MI, Wanda and her husband Michael O'Brien, of Huntington, NY; a son Anthony J. and his wife, Kirsten, of Westford MA; 7 grandchildren; a brother, Robert and his wife Winifred Capowski, of Millbrook NY; a brother in-law, Dr. Anthony and his wife Maya Cirillo, of Rockville Center NY; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday June 9, 2008 at St. Anselm Abby Church, 100 St. Anselm Drive, Manchester.

Burial was at the convenience of the family.
