He was born in Manchester on June 24, 1923, the son of Andrew and Mary (Wyskiel) Drewniak and had resided in Manchester all of his life.
He graduated from West High School class of 1941 where he played baseball, football and was named the captain of the 1940 baseball team. He played with the TTK baseball team in the old Sunset League and also played for the Jutras Post American Legion.
Walter was a US Navy veteran of WWII, enlisting in 1942. He served both in the Atlantic and Pacific aboard a Navy tanker, The USS Winooski as a radioman. He was awarded the American Campaign medal, the Asiatic Pacific medal, the Philippine Liberation medal and the WWII Victory medal.
Mr. Drewniak worked for Foster Beef Co. for 31 years. He was a life member of VFW Post 9347, where he served as chaplain for 11 years.
Walter was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman who loved playing golf and bowling.
He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Cathedral where he served as an usher. He was on the maintenance and cemetery committee and was a member of the Holy Trinity Cathedral Seniors.
He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years Charlotte (Geddes) Drewniak in 1995.
Members of his family include two daughters, Barbara Ann Bilodeau and her husband Paul, Carol Ann St. Jean and her husband Skyp, both of Manchester; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Edward Drewniak and John Drewniak and one great-grandson, Andrew John "AJ" St. Jean in 2008.
The Mass of Christian Burial took place on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at the Holy Trinity Polish National Cathedral, corner of Pearl and Union St. Burial followed at the Holy Trinity Polish National Cemetery in Goffstown, NH.
