Walter D. Kilian

Walter D. Kilian, 71, of Manchester died May 28, 2007 at Catholic Medical Center after a sudden illness.

Born in Jamaica, NY on December 22, 1935, he was the son of Daniel and Isabelle (Walter) Kilian. He lived in Hingham, MA five years and Mont Vernon 40 years before moving to Manchester four years ago.

He retired from the US Navy as a captain after 30 years of service in a ceremony that took place on the USS Constitution.

Mr. Kilian worked for Bethlehem Steel in Quincy, MA and Hitchiner Manufacturing in Milford. Since then he has owned and operated Availability of New Hampshire for 40 years.

He was a former president of the New Hampshire Jaycees and was active with the New Hampshire Association for the Blind. He also served as District Governor for Rotary International in 1995 and 1996.

He was one of the founders of St. Luke Anglican Church in Amherst and served as senior warden for many years. He also was director of the International Anglican Fellowship.

Mr. Kilian was a naval aide to Governor's Thomson, Sununu and Merrill.

The family includes his wife of 50 years, Cynthia (Carter) Kilian of Manchester; three children, David S. Kilian of Epsom, Elizabeth A.K. Webb of Peterborough and Jonathan C. Kilian of Merrimac, MA; six grandchildren; his mother of Seminole, FL; a sister, Barbara M. Bernstein of South Pasadena, FL and cousins, nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Friday June 1, 2007 at St. Luke Anglican Church, 3 Limbo Lane, Amherst with Rev. Jeffrey Swayze officiating. Committal prayers with military honors were also held Friday at at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen.
