Wayne R. Volkmann, 86, of Portsmouth, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

After serving in the Military Wayne owned and operated several Exxon, Gulf and Sunoco service stations in Manchester. He later worked in the Postal Service first in Manchester then for many years in Groveton NH where he first retired. Finally after moving to the Portsmouth NH area Wayne worked as the Purchaser for Wentworth by the Sea Hotel for many years until his final retirement at the age of 80.

He volunteered in the community throughout his life, most notably as coach for Manchester Little League, on the Board of the NHRLCA Union, on the Board of The Cedars of Portsmouth, and volunteered at the Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Portsmouth, and the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge in Newburyport Massachusetts.

Wayne enjoyed people and never met a stranger. He shared jokes and small gifts with nearly everyone he met. In his free time Wayne liked to fish, hunt, travel, and dine at his favorite restaurants. His greatest joy came from spending time with his wife, his children and his grandchildren.

He and his wife Susan also enjoyed to travel all over this country.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years Susan; his daughters Bambilynn Volkmann (Bill) of Virginia; Heidi Kukla (David) of Concord NH; his sister Carole Groleau (Richard) of Manchester; his sister-in-law Carol Loranger (Jimmy) of Gorham Maine; his 5 Grandchildren Brandon Gagnon (Clara) of North Carolina, Amanda Riz (Mike) of Connecticut, Brian Westneat (Rebekah) of North Carolina, Kyle Kukla (Radha) of Connecticut, and Melissa Jean-Simon (Brendon) of North Carolina; his 10 great-grandchildren Everett, Ash, Savannah, Norah, Zara, Hannah, Zelda, Wesley, Mary and his namesake Lincoln Wayne; and dozens of loving nieces and nephews.

Wayne was predeceased by his son, Wayne Robert Volkmann II; his siblings Gloria, Delores, Henry, Donald, Virginia, and Maureen; his brother-in-law Vincent LePage.
