Wayne A. Young, 82 died May 15 in Manchester, NH. He was born to Deloid and Edna Young of Willsboro, NY on October 9, 1933 and is survived by his children Heather and Glenn Sweeney of Amherst, NH, Shelley and Jim Lindsay and of Temple, NH and Jeffrey Young and fiancée Kathy Beery of Massapequa, NY. He is also survived by his two stepsons William and Leanne Levy of Milford, NJ and Paul and Robin Levy of Katonah, NY, his sister Jean Young of Albany, NY, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild that was born on his last birthday. He was predeceased by his son Bryan Young of Central Islip, NY.
Wayne attended Willsboro schools and earned a bachelor's degree from Plattsburgh State. He continued his education after moving to Long Island, earning a Master's in Education from Hofstra University. He proudly served his country in the Air Force where he was a pitcher for the Air Force baseball team. He often joked that he got injured in the war …. sliding into third base.
Wayne and his former wife, Ramona (Reynolds) raised their family in West Islip, NY where Wayne was a teacher, then school principal, but spent all of their summers running Echo Lake Park Resort in Willsboro. Many good times for many different families were had at Echo Lake where Wayne would host square dances, water skiing, horseshoe tournaments and occasional pranks on many of their guests.
Wayne spent his retirement years with his late, dearest wife Irene (Levy) in Talbott, Tennessee. Homeport, their home on Cherokee Lake, was a gathering place where many of their friends and family enjoyed happy times. The family hosted a memorial event to celebrate his life on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Pavilion House in Alpine Grove, 19 So. Depot Road, Hollis, NH.
